THE CONCEPT OF MATHEW CHAPTER 5

THE CONCEPT OF MATHEW CHAPTER 5
Mat 5:1  And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
The Beatitudes
Mat 5:2  And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
Mat 5:3  Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:4  Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Mat 5:5  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Mat 5:6  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Mat 5:7  Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Mat 5:8  Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Mat 5:9  Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Mat 5:10  Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Mathew 5 can be divided into three contexts. The beatitudes, being a disciple and a Christian’s personal relationship.

Observation

  1. The beatitudes talks about the blesses one receive out of living by characters such as meekness, active partaking in the search of God’s word, standing firm in your stand in Christ.
  2. Mathew 5:13-16 describes a Christian salt and light. Making emphasis on living with purpose and shining in the light of Christ. For as a Christian we must be outstanding in our walk with Lord.
  3. Jesus explains that in an atmosphere which would lead a Christian to sin or tempted to sin, such events should be avoided. For example, if you’re surrounded by people who make you second guess your faith… those people should be cut off. Or you are enticed by what you see on social media or television which doesn’t fall in line with the walk of Christ, such places should be avoided.
  4. Jesus also talks about making peace with your brother, Neighbour and or even our enemy.

Application
The teaches encourage us to be kind, humble, and compassionate towards others, and to live a life that is centered around love and forgiveness.

Prayer.
God, give me the strength to walk in your ways, guide me in the paths to take, for your promises and love are far more valuable than gold and silver. Thank you for choosing me to be a follower of your light.
I declare that I am light that shines and salt which never lost it’s taste. Empower me as I seek to live like You in Jesus’ name.
