The personality of the Holy Spirit part 1
Scriptures:
John 5:7, Genesis 1:2, John 6:63 Genesis 1:26, Roman 8:15-16
Observation:
Ministry, at its core, is the service and responsibility entrusted to every believer through the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18-19). It is not confined to a physical building or an organized church but reflects our calling to bring others back into relationship with God through Christ.
Within this broad ministry, there are specific offices or roles, often referred to as the fivefold ministry—apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers of the word. These offices serve to equip the saints for the work of ministry, helping to build up the body of Christ
The Called: Represent all believers who have accepted Jesus Christ and are tasked with the general mission of reconciliation.
The Chosen: Are those appointed to specific offices within the ministry, equipped and anointed for leadership, guidance, and specialized service in God’s kingdom.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, often referred to as the Spirit of God or the Spirit of the Lord in the Old Testament. He is fully God, co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and the Son. While the term “Trinity” is not explicitly found in Scripture, it is a theological term used to describe the unity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three persons in one divine essence.
Biblical Role and Nature of the Holy Spirit:
Personhood of the Holy Spirit:
The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force but a person with intellect, will, and emotions. He teaches (John 14:26), intercedes (Romans 8:26), and can be grieved (Ephesians 4:30).
In the Old Testament:
He was known as the Spirit of God, empowering individuals like prophets, judges, and kings for specific tasks. For example, He filled Bezalel with skill for craftsmanship (Exodus 31:1-3) and came upon David for leadership (1 Samuel 16:13).
In the New Testament:
The Holy Spirit becomes more personal and intimate in His relationship with believers. At salvation, He regenerates (Titus 3:5), dwells within (1 Corinthians 6:19), and seals believers as a guarantee of redemption (Ephesians 1:13-14).
His “Birth” at Salvation:
While the Holy Spirit has always existed, His indwelling presence in believers became possible after Jesus’ redemptive work on the cross. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came to dwell permanently within the hearts of those who believe in Christ (Acts 2:1-4), signifying God’s intimate presence among His people.
Connection to the Trinity:
The concept of the Trinity helps us understand how the Holy Spirit relates to the Father and the Son:
God the Father: The Creator and source of all.
God the Son (Jesus): The Redeemer who became flesh to save humanity.
God the Holy Spirit: The Sanctifier who applies salvation to individuals and empowers them to live for God.
Availability and Indwelling:
The Holy Spirit dwelling within believers signifies the fulfillment of God’s desire to be with humanity. Just as God dwelt in the tabernacle and later in Christ during His earthly ministry, He now dwells in the hearts of His people through the Holy Spirit, making God’s presence continuously accessible.
Application:
- Start Every Day with Awareness of His Presence
Each morning, I remind myself that the Holy Spirit lives in me. I pause, thank Him for being my helper, and ask Him to guide my thoughts, words, and actions for the day. I say something like:
“Holy Spirit, I acknowledge You. Walk with me today and lead me in the way I should go.”
- Rely on His Strength During Challenges
When I face frustrations, delays, or doubts, I remind myself that the Holy Spirit is my strength. Instead of relying on my own power, I would surrender
- Develop His Fruit in My Character
I regularly evaluate my behavior and relationships. When I notice impatience, doubt, or fear creeping in, I ask the Holy Spirit to help me grow in areas like patience and self-control.
4.Find Comfort in Him
When I feel overwhelmed, I remember that the Holy Spirit is my Comforter. I take time to be still in His presence, laying my burdens at His feet
Prayer
Holy Spirit, I thank You for living in me. You are my guide, my strength, and my comforter. I acknowledge Your presence in my life today, and I surrender myself to Your leading.
Fill my heart with Your wisdom and understanding as I walk in the vision You have given me. In my studies, in my work, and in every decision, guide me to the truth and give me clarity. Help me to rely on Your strength, especially when challenges arise, and remind me that I am never alone. In Jesus name amen
